the way to cleaner production

Tool for household electric energy audit and for evaluation of possible savings in domestic buildings; Target groups are SMEs in the Renewable Energy sector, ESCOs, municipalities.
Description
The tool is an updated version (2009-2010) of the home electrical audit tool already used in the European projects TREAM (SAVE program) and ECHOAction (Intelligent Energy program). It was thoroughly tested by several families. The tool does not address per se specific SME requirements, but can be seen as an added value service that SMEs can provide their customers in cases of building/apartment refurbishment and renovation, installation of PV panels on detached houses, and whenever electric energy consumption in the residential sector has to be evaluated and optimised with the goal of reaching higher overall efficiencies and best return on investment.
At the moment the tool is available only in Italian language. An English version can be produced, if requests for translation should come.
Supporting tools
Excel/OpenOffice spreadsheet able to analyse, through a specific audit, the breakdown of the actual energy consumption in the home and suggesting a number of tailored best actions and interventions.
Innovative aspects (enviromental, social, economic)
The tool contains accurate modelling of average electrical consumption of white appliances over the last three decades as well as typical consumptions for most of the electrical goods in the home. Best Available Technologies, belonging to A/A++ European energy classes, are suggested for comparison. The tool provides typical payback time for refrigerators/freezers substitution based on the actual characteristics of the old appliance.
Advantages
The tool goes beyond the generic hints for energy savings and substitution of old appliances, as is usually done by other check-up questionnaires
Current stage of development
Available for demonstration – field tested
Intellectual Property Rights
Costs
Free, non commercial use. The present version has been jointly developed by Municipality of Bologna and ENEA using their own internal resources
Application examples
During the TREAM and ECHOAction projects the Municipality of Bologna tested a previous version of the tool for electrical energy consumption and savings on a large number of families and citizens.
